Welsh Government has announced that it is set to exceed the targets for 10,000 affordable homes before the end of this Assembly term (May 2017). Figures presented reveal that it has already achieved 91% of its target. In 2014-15, 2218 affordable homes were delivered across Wales bringing the total provided since 2011 to 9,108.
The Welsh Regulated Social Landlords (RSLs) delivered 89% of the additional affordable housing in 2014/15 (1,971 units), while 563 of the homes built were on land made available by the public sector. Then Welsh Government is investing £400 million through Social Housing Grant (SHG) to increase the supply. Welsh Tenants recognises that building homes benefits the local economy through the creation and sustainment of jobs in the construction industry including apprenticeships.
